Eight Below (2006)

Antarctic wilderness guide Jerry Shepard leads a team of eight sled dogs on various missions at a research base in the frozen continent. When a scientist needs urgent rescue after a dangerous accident, Jerry and his dogs brave treacherous conditions to save him, but the worsening weather forces an emergency evacuation of the entire base.

With no time and weight restrictions on the rescue plane, Jerry is devastated when he's forced to leave his loyal dogs behind, chained at the base with the promise he'll return for them as soon as possible. However, the severe storm closes the area for months, and Jerry struggles desperately to find funding and transportation to mount a rescue mission.

Meanwhile, the eight dogs—including lead dog Maya—must break free from their chains and work together to survive the brutal Antarctic winter on their own, hunting for food, facing dangerous predators like leopard seals, and enduring subzero temperatures and isolation. The film follows both Jerry's determined efforts to return and the dogs' remarkable fight for survival as the months drag on in one of Earth's most unforgiving environments.

Watch it at Grandma’s

“Honestly I was not expecting this to be more on the drama/survival side going into it. Still I was really surprised how much I was entertained and enjoyed it. Worth checking out with beautiful landscapes, heartwarming dogs that will tug at your heart and seeing a different side of Disney overall."

Seth's Rating

Take it Home!

“To be honest, this might be the second most endearing live action animal movie we've covered, considering we've done films like Homeward Bound etc. With the directorial choices, the cinematography, this movie is absolutely stunning, heartwarming and a true adventure.”
