MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER
Hello, Movie Lovers!
Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the fourteenth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue our journey through the podcast catalog—and this week, we're giving Mario another shot at big-screen glory.
This week, we're powering up with the 2023 animated adventure, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. After being sucked through a mysterious pipe, Brooklyn plumber Mario finds himself in the colorful Mushroom Kingdom, separated from his brother Luigi. With Luigi captured by the villainous Bowser—who's wielding an all-powerful Super Star and planning to force Princess Peach into marriage—Mario must team up with Peach and Toad to save his brother, stop Bowser's conquest, and find a way back home.
We gave this one a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. After the 1993 disaster, this is the Mario movie fans have been waiting for. The animation is gorgeous, the Mushroom Kingdom is vibrant and faithful to the games, and Jack Black absolutely steals the show as Bowser. It's packed with references, Easter eggs, and fun action sequences that nail what a Mario movie should feel like. However, Isaac wished the story was more developed without so many plot holes. His biggest gripe? Bowser has a Super Star that makes him unstoppable, but the film never addresses this imbalance. Why doesn't Mario go on a quest to get his own power-up—you know, like a video game? The structure is right there, but instead the plot rushes from set piece to set piece. A love letter to the games that's fun but could've been great with a stronger narrative.
Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating
Watch it at Grandma’s
“This is the Super Mario Bros. movie we wanted in the 1990’s. Obviously the CGI is more advanced today but you know, a movie that actually feels like it is based off the video games. It’s a fun ride, I just wish it had more depth and less fan service. The plot was pretty lazy along with a couple of the voice overs but as a whole it is a solid movie. Jack Black alone is what makes this worth watching, but you’ll have a great time with this one."

Take it Home!
“I can literally watch this anytime! I get a lot of enjoyment out of the movie. When it first came out, I didn’t want to see it, due to the press and negative surrounding it. When I finally watched it, I loved it!”
