MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the seventeenth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue celebrating films from our podcast—and this week, we're soaring down under with an underrated Disney classic.

This week, we're taking flight with the 1990 animated adventure, The Rescuers Down Under. When a young Australian boy named Cody is kidnapped by the ruthless poacher McLeach after discovering a rare golden eagle, the Rescue Aid Society sends their best agents—tiny mice Bernard and Bianca—to save him. With the help of local allies and the majestic eagle Marahute, they must navigate the dangerous Outback and stop McLeach before it's too late.

We gave this one a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. This is one of Disney's most underrated gems from that transitional period between eras, and it deserves way more love. The animation is genuinely stunning—those sweeping aerial shots of the Australian Outback and thrilling flight sequences feel ahead of their time. The characters are fun and there's a real sense of adventure throughout. However, there are some legitimately dark themes, with McLeach being a genuinely menacing villain willing to feed a kid to crocodiles. Seth wasn't a fan of how intense it gets. Isaac, on the other hand, loves this movie and ranks it as one of his all-time favorites, citing the exhilarating sense of flight with Marahute, the gorgeous animation style, and of course the nostalgia. Those soaring sequences capture the joy of flying like few animated films have. A hidden Disney treasure worth rediscovering.

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating

Take it Home!

“Growing up this was one of my favorites. It still holds up today despite the dark elements. The animation is probably my all time favorite in terms of style and artwork. The sense of adventure and fun I just enjoy it every viewing. Not to mention humor in the form of McLeech sarcasm (as dark as it can be) and the Late John Candy as Wilbur. For me, nostalgia dialed to 11."

Seth's Rating

Hide it in the Attic

“It has some redeemable qualities but I thought the darker elements were too strong for me.”
