Hello, Movie Lovers!
Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're launching a brand new series called "Grandma's Collection" where we're traveling back through our podcast catalog to highlight some of the incredible films we've covered.
For our first installment, we're revisiting Don Bluth's beloved 1988 animated classic, The Land Before Time. This prehistoric adventure follows young Littlefoot, a longneck dinosaur who must navigate an impossibly vast and dangerous world after devastating loss. Along the way, he forms a found family with Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike—each bringing their own vulnerabilities and strengths to this journey toward the Great Valley.
We praised its masterful animation with rich, painterly backgrounds, and the enormous heart at its core. This is a film that never talks down to its audience, tackling themes of loss, friendship, and perseverance with genuine emotional depth. At just 69 minutes, it's lean and focused, delivering both darkness and hope in equal measure—proving that animated films can achieve something truly special when they lead with emotion and craft.
Check out our original episode where we had special guest Ben on as well. This was our second episode, where our format was more in depth, breaking down movies scene for scene (not to mention audio only). We hope you enjoy going back and revisiting to see how far we’ve come as a podcast!
We’ve also started our very own page on Letterboxd (@grandmashouse)! The review consists of our overall rating of the film. Be sure to give us a follow and check out more of our reviews in the future!
Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!
