MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the fifteenth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue highlighting films from our podcast—and this week, we're revisiting a Disney classic that doesn't pull its punches.

This week, we're exploring the bittersweet friendship at the heart of the 1981 animated film, The Fox and the Hound. When an orphaned fox named Tod and a hound dog puppy named Copper become unlikely best friends, their bond seems unbreakable. But as they grow older, the realities of their nature and society's expectations threaten to tear them apart. Copper is trained to hunt foxes, and suddenly these childhood friends find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict neither of them asked for.

We gave this one a solid 3 out of 5 stars. This is one of those Disney films that doesn't get talked about as much as the Renaissance classics, but it packs an emotional punch that sticks with you. Isaac has strong memories of watching this at Grandma's house, and for good reason—this movie gets dark.

Tod's mother is shot in the opening minutes, there's a brutal bear fight, and the film doesn't shy away from harsh realities of nature and the cruelty that prejudice breeds. It's surprisingly heavy for Disney, tackling themes of friendship, loss, and how the world can drive wedges between people who genuinely care about each other. The animation is solid, the voice work is excellent, and the emotional core is strong. Not the happiest Disney movie, but definitely a memorable one.

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating

Watch it at Grandma’s

“This was a true “movie at Grandma’s’ growing up. Lots of fun memories, but it does have its dark themes. Still a good overall movie, just something I won’t be putting on all the time."

Seth's Rating

Watch it at Grandma’s

“I didn’t have any nostalgia with this growing up. It was a tough watch with the dark themes, but I like the movie and it is well written with good life lessons despite the dark moments.”
