MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the seventh edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue our journey through the podcast vault, revisiting films that left their mark on us over the years.

This week, we're plugging into the 1987 animated adventure, The Brave Little Toaster. When five loyal household appliances—Toaster, Blanky, Lampy, Radio, and Kirby the vacuum—realize their beloved master hasn't returned to the cabin in years, they embark on a perilous journey to the city to find him. What follows is a surprisingly emotional tale of friendship, loyalty, and the fear of being left behind.

We gave this one a solid 3 out of 5 stars. Isaac grew up watching this and has tons of memories with it, but here's the thing—this movie gets intense. Beneath the charming adventure of talking appliances lies some genuinely dark and adult themes. There's a nightmare sequence that feels like it wandered in from a horror film, a junkyard scene with an existential song about obsolescence and death, and an air conditioner that literally has a near fatal meltdown. This is a film grappling with abandonment, mortality, and what happens when you're no longer useful—heavy stuff disguised as a kids' movie. Revisiting it as adults revealed layers we definitely didn't catch back then. Still a solid watch with heart and genuine friendship at its core, but maybe not the lighthearted romp you remember.

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating

Take it Home!

“This is just up my alley what can I say? The humor is dark sure, but it has a lot of heart when you get into the thought of appliances loving their master and going on an adventure to see him again. The animation might seem dated but I think it is well done even for today. My kids enjoyed it with me, so it made for a good time."
