MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER
Hello, Movie Lovers!
Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the thirty-first edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue exploring films from our podcast—and this week, we're racing at the speed of sound with a video game adaptation that got it right.
This week, we're going fast with the 2020 adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic is a hyperactive blue hedgehog with super speed who's been hiding on Earth to escape those who want to exploit his incredible powers. When he accidentally causes a massive power outage that attracts unwanted attention, the government sends in the eccentric and brilliant Dr. Robotnik to investigate and capture him. Now Sonic must team up with small-town cop Tom Wachowski for a cross-country road trip to San Francisco, mixing buddy comedy action with heart as Sonic searches for a place to truly call home.
We gave this one a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars! After the nightmare of the original Sonic design (we don't talk about those first trailers), this film emerged as a genuinely fun video game adaptation that learned from past mistakes. We enjoyed the dialog and animation throughout—Ben Schwartz brings infectious energy to Sonic's voice, and Jim Carrey is clearly having the time of his life channeling his '90s manic energy as Robotnik. The chemistry and banter keep things entertaining, the animation (post-redesign) looks great, and there are plenty of references and nods that Sonic fans will appreciate. It's not reinventing the wheel, but it's exactly what a Sonic movie should be: fast, funny, and lots of fun for Sonic fans and families alike.
Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

“This is such a fun ride of a movie and might surprise you. The dialog and writing is great and the fact that the studio heard the cries from fans about the animation, went back and fixed it? Well done! This feels like a Sonic film made by Sonic fans. It’s not perfect but it’s a great start to the trilogy and I look forward to revisiting from time to time."
