MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER
Hello, Movie Lovers!
Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! Season 4 continues! In our latest podcast episode, we asked: Does Snow Day (2000) capture the fun of a winter wonderland, or does it melt into a puddle of missed opportunities?
This family comedy takes us to Syracuse, New York, where a massive snowstorm shuts down the town and gives a group of kids the ultimate snow day adventure—led by young Hal Brandston who sees it as his chance to win over the girl of his dreams while his sister Natalie and her friends wage an epic battle against the legendary Snowplow Man to keep school closed. We dive into this nostalgic time capsule of early 2000s Nickelodeon movies, the film's chaotic blend of multiple storylines from romantic pursuits to meteorologist career crises, and whether this winter romp delivers both the joy of childhood freedom and genuine laughs as everyone tries to make the most of their unexpected day off—proving that sometimes the best memories are made when plans get canceled.

Snow Day (2000)
When a massive snowstorm hits Syracuse, New York, the Brandston family each embarks on their own adventure during the unexpected day off.
Young Natalie and her friends wage an all-out war against the legendary Snowplow Man—a grumpy local who threatens to ruin their fun by clearing the streets too quickly—scheming to sabotage his plow and guarantee a second snow day.
Meanwhile, her older brother Hal attempts to win over his longtime crush Claire, the popular girl who just became single, while his best friend Lane tries to show him that true love might be closer than he thinks.
Their father Tom, a struggling weatherman stuck wearing ridiculous costumes, competes with a rival meteorologist for credibility, while their workaholic mother Laura gets an unexpected chance to reconnect with the family.
How would we rate it?

Isaac's Rating
Hide it in the Attic
“This feels like two movies. One side is a fun kids movie with snow forts, sledding, an epic standoff with a plow man and more. The other? An awkward love triangle that just feels weird in a family movie. If the love story wasn’t the main focus this would be a fun movie for all. But for now I don’t have much interest revisiting it again."
Seth's Rating
Watch it at Grandma’s
“A lot of laughs and a good premise, but it didn't age as well as I'd hoped. In addition, there was more crude humor than I originally thought.”
