Mighty Joe Young (1998)
The 1998 "Mighty Joe Young" is a remake starring Charlize Theron as Jill Young, a woman who raised an extraordinarily large mountain gorilla named Joe in Africa after poachers killed both their mothers. When Joe's size makes him a target for poachers, zoologist Gregg O'Hara (Bill Paxton) convinces Jill to relocate Joe to a wildlife sanctuary in California. Initially used as an attraction, Joe becomes agitated by his confinement and the crowds. When the poacher responsible for killing Joe's mother reappears, Joe escapes, leading to chaos. The film climaxes with Joe heroically saving a child from a burning Ferris wheel. Ultimately, Joe and Jill return to Africa where Joe can live freely protected in a sanctuary. The film combines action, emotion, and environmental themes while showcasing groundbreaking special effects for its time.

Seth's Rating Leave At Grandma’s “I went back and forth a bit. I strongly feel it isn’t for little ones. Be warned. That said it is a good movie.” | ![]() |
