MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER
Hello, Movie Lovers!
Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the eighteenth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue highlighting films from our podcast catalog—and this week, we're checking into one of the most chaotic hotels in cinema history.
This week, we're going bananas with the 1996 family comedy, Dunston Checks In. Robert Grant is the stressed-out manager of an upscale hotel preparing for a critical five-star evaluation, but his carefully organized world is about to be turned upside down. When his two sons discover Dunston—an orangutan being used by a jewel thief played by Faye Dunaway—the mischievous primate escapes and turns the pristine hotel into an absolute disaster zone, swinging from chandeliers, crashing fancy dinners, and causing mayhem at every turn.
We gave this one an impressive 4 out of 5 stars! Sometimes a movie about an orangutan causing chaos in a fancy hotel is exactly what you need, and Dunston Checks In delivers with charm, heart, and surprising wit. The physical comedy is genuinely funny, Dunston has real personality, and there's enough heart beneath the chaos to keep you invested—he's not just a prop for gags, but a character escaping an abusive situation. Jason Alexander is perfectly cast playing frazzled frustration with comedic timing, and the hotel setting provides endless opportunities for creative destruction. It's silly, wholesome, and exactly the kind of family fun that doesn't try to be more than it is. Seth ranks this as one of his absolute favorites for the podcast—pure '90s entertainment that still brings the laughs.
Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Watch it at Grandma’s
“This was on repeat growing up. So many fun memories when rewatching this one. My only con is the amount of adult themes and language was more than I recall. Otherwise it’s a fun time for the family, with an interesting story and humor throughout."
