MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the sixteenth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue our journey through the podcast vault—and this week, we're stepping into the laboratory of everyone's favorite boy genius.

This week, we're traveling through time with the 1999 TV movie, Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip. When Dexter's arch-nemesis Mandark steals his latest invention, the boy genius embarks on a time-traveling adventure through multiple timelines to stop Mandark from conquering the future. Along the way, Dexter meets various versions of himself—from a muscular teenage Dexter to an elderly version—and must work together with his alternate selves to save the world and restore the timeline.

We gave this one a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. This feature-length adventure delivers exactly what fans of the Cartoon Network series wanted—more genius inventions, more sibling rivalry with Dee Dee, and a bigger, more ambitious story than the show's regular episodes. The animation is crisp, the voice work maintains the show's energy, and there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that capture the series' absurdist humor. However, we were caught off guard by some genuinely dark and intense moments—the dystopian future ruled by Mandark gets surprisingly bleak, and the action sequences push the boundaries of typical Saturday morning cartoon fare. At around 50 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome and delivers a funny, action-packed adventure that expands the world in satisfying ways.

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

“Cartoon Theatre on Cartoon Network played this nonstop. I recall many fun memories enjoying it growing up. It still has its fun moments but some things haven’t aged as well with the intense scenes. Still a great time every once and a while."
