MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the eighth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue celebrating the films that have made their way through our podcast over the years.

This week, we're back on the ice with the 1994 sequel, D2: The Mighty Ducks. Gordon Bombay returns, this time coaching Team USA at the Junior Goodwill Games in Los Angeles. He brings most of the original Ducks along for the ride, now joined by talented new players from across the country. But when success goes to Bombay's head and the team loses sight of what made them special, they'll need to remember their roots and come together to face their toughest opponents yet—the intimidating Team Iceland.

We gave this one a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars! When it comes to sports movie sequels, D2 does exactly what it needs to do—raises the stakes and delivers more of that underdog charm we loved the first time around. Isaac actually thinks this one's better than the original, and there's a strong case for it. The stakes feel higher with international competition, the team dynamics are more complex with new players in the mix, and Team Iceland makes for genuinely intimidating rivals. Yes, Bombay goes through basically the same character arc again, but it works because the franchise heart is still there. The knucklepuck, the flying V on outdoor ice, Emilio Estevez in that Team USA jacket—it's all gloriously '90s. A great sequel to a legendary franchise that proves lightning can strike twice!

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating

Take it Home!

“I had a great time revisiting this one. I forgot how much fun it is. New characters, great bad guy in Iceland’s coach, and just pure 90s fun. Kids loved it too, this is one I can’t wait to revisit even with a few flaws solid movie. Dare I say, I enjoy it more than the original!"

“I wouldn’t want to watch this over and over, if I get a chance to watch it again I will. It’s a lot of fun, but not as good as the first.”
