MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the twenty-sixth edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue our journey through the podcast vault—and this week, we're hitting the open road with a film that deserves more credit than it gets.

This week, we're racing into Radiator Springs with the 2006 Pixar adventure, Cars. Lightning McQueen is a hotshot rookie race car with his eyes on the Piston Cup championship and all the fame that comes with it. But when he accidentally gets stranded in the forgotten town of Radiator Springs on historic Route 66, he's forced to slow down, perform community service, and connect with the quirky locals he'd normally speed right past. As Lightning gets to know Doc Hudson, Sally, Mater, and the rest of the town's colorful residents, he begins to learn that life isn't just about the destination—it's about the journey and the friends you make along the way.

We gave this one a solid 4 out of 5 stars! Cars often gets dismissed as "lesser Pixar," but that's selling it short. This is a genuinely enjoyable film with good character arcs and fun for all ages. Lightning's transformation feels earned, Doc Hudson's backstory adds genuine emotional weight, and the Radiator Springs crew are all memorable and distinct. The animation is gorgeous with stunning desert landscapes, the racing sequences are thrilling, and Randy Newman's score captures both the excitement of competition and the nostalgia of a bygone era. The humor works for kids and adults alike, and the themes about how progress leaves people behind and the value of community resonate. Don't sleep on Cars!

Isaac's Rating

Watch it at Grandma’s

“Pixar continues its streak of film making greatness. This is no different than quality compared to the other films considered so far. The story, characters and fun are all here. However, I personally wouldn’t put it up with the Toy Story and Monsters Inc. kind of films. No matter you will have a great time with this one, I just personally prefer to come back to it every once and a while."

Take It Home!

“Pixar made such a good car movie. I loved it not just for the cars, but also for Doc Hudson’s character and how he spread his wisdom to a young naive racer in Lightning McQueen.”
