MOVIES AT GRANDMA'S HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Hello, Movie Lovers!

Welcome to this week's Movies at Grandmas House newsletter! We're back with the twenty-first edition of "Grandma's Archives" where we continue highlighting films from our podcast catalog—and this week, we're giving some much-deserved love to a Pixar film that doesn't get talked about nearly enough.

This week, we're shrinking down to bug size with the 1998 animated adventure, A Bug's Life.

When Flik, an inventive but clumsy ant, accidentally destroys his colony's food offering to the intimidating grasshoppers led by the menacing Hopper, he sets out on a mission to recruit warrior bugs to defend his home. There's just one problem—he accidentally hires a troupe of circus performers instead of fighters. Now Flik and his misfit crew must find a way to stand up to the grasshoppers and save the colony before it's too late.

We gave this one a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars! A Bug's Life is Pixar's forgotten middle child, sandwiched between Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and it's a shame because this movie is genuinely excellent. This ant-sized retelling of Seven Samurai features animation that was a significant leap forward from the original Toy Story, with lush environments and incredible attention to detail. The voice cast is stacked, the humor works for all ages, and Hopper is a legitimately menacing villain. The themes about standing up to bullies and finding strength in community resonate deeply. This is an underrated gem that gets lost among Pixar's other classics but absolutely holds its own. Time to give A Bug's Life the respect it deserves!

Plus, we've found some amazing deals on movie posters from MoviePoster.com, Amazon, and more—check them out!

Isaac's Rating

Take It Home!

“This was one of my favorites growing up, and it is still one I enjoy from Pixar. The humor, story, writing is all here in ‘Peak Pixar’ form. It’s a shame you don’t hear much about this one, it deserves more love in the Pixar catalog."

Seth's Rating

Take It Home!

“It’s life from the angle of bugs. It’s got comedy with real life lessons. A truly captivating film.”
